Michael is an experienced trial attorney with more than 15 first chair trials in Arizona superior and federal courts. Additionally, Michael has represented clients in arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, special actions, and appeals, including at the Arizona Court of Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Admitted in Massachusetts and Arizona, Michael has been involved in all aspects of civil litigation litigation on behalf of individuals, companies, corporate executives, the State of Arizona, and its various subdivisions and officers. At the Office of the Arizona Attorney General, Michael worked for Solicitors General Hon. John Lopez, Dominic Draye, and Hon. David Cole.
As counsel for major insurance companies and as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona, Michael has litigated and provided legal advice to clients and state officials in matters involving breach of contract, bad faith, civil rights, constitutional law (First, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments), construction and construction defect law, criminal law (including post-conviction relief and appeals), election law, electronic discovery, executive and officer governance and liability, federalism, intellectual property (copyright, trade mark, and trade dress), personal injury & wrongful death, preliminary and permanent injunctions, professional liability/malpractice, property damage, voting rights, water rights, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Homeowner Association law, the Arizona Purchaser Dwelling Act, the Prison Litigation Reform Act, the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, the Freedom of Information Act, Arizona’s Open Meeting Law, and state and federal law governing unmanned aviation systems (“UAS”).
Michael is an active member of the various professional and community organizations, including the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, the Christian Legal Society, the Federalist Society, Turners Syndrome Society, Arizona School for the Performing Arts, and the Downtown Phoenix Lincoln Family Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). Michael has served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court, as well as a judge in the Arizona Mock Trial and Oplinger Closing Argument competitions.
Michael and his wife, Cindy, are adoptive parents and are active in the Christian foster care & adoption ministry. Michael and Cindy are particularly focused on serving the downtown Phoenix Christian community, leading pre-marital and marriage courses at First Christian Church. Michael is a cancer survivor, and he and his family actively support cancer patients, survivors, and families with children with special needs through fitness and wellness programs at the YMCA and through their yoga studio, Ashtanga Yoga Phoenix.
